<b><big>LAW WEEK 2009 Schedule of Events</big></b>
The San Diego County Public Law Library is celebrating LAW DAY 2009 with a week full of events from Monday, April 27th to Friday, May 1st. The Library has a number of Law Week special events planned at each of our branches for the public to enjoy.


The Main Branch will be staffing an informational event, "Learn About the Law Library," at the San Diego Public Library, Central Branch on Monday, April 27, 2009 from 12pm to 4pm. Librarians from the Law Library will be on hand to discuss the unique services offered by the Law Library such as legal resources, educational classes, and legal clinics.

On Tuesday, April 28, 2009, the Main Branch will be hosting a lecture, "The Constitutional Legacy of Abraham Lincoln."Prof. Wildenthal

The lecture, given by Bryan H. Wildenthal, Professor of Law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, will examine Lincoln's respect for the rule of law and his actions as President during a time of war and how they relate to current events.

Class attendees are eligible for 1 hour of general participatory MCLE credit. All those attending will be eligible to win a special raffle prize to be held at the end of the presentation.

Join the Main Library for a free exhibit on Abraham Lincoln, celebrating his legacy of liberty. Learn about the interesting parallels between President Lincoln and President Obama. See selected resources from the Library's Lincoln collection on display with commentary. Learn about Lincoln's legal legacy; specifically the suspension of habeas corpus and the Merryman case, and Lincoln's reaction to the Dred Scott decision.

The East County Branch will be hosting a Legal Clinic with the Foothills Bar Association on Friday, May 1, 2009, from 10am to 3pm on the first floor of the East County Regional Center. The clinic will cover bankruptcy, family law, personal injury, probate, trusts, and real property law.

The South Bay Branch will feature special guest speaker, Michael L. Crowley, Esq., who will discuss the "Suspension of Habeas Corpus: From Abraham Lincoln to George W. Bush" on Thursday, April 30, 2009, from 12pm to 1pm.Attorney Michael Crowley

Mr. Crowley is a Certified Criminal Law Specialist and Adjunct Professor of Law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. He practices criminal defense and civil rights actions and is President of the Criminal Defense Bar Association. He graduated cum laude from California Western School of Law.

Class attendees are eligible for 1 hour of general participatory MCLE credit. All those attending will be eligible to win a special raffle prize to be held at the end of the presentation.

The South Bay Branch is also hosting a presentation about "Computer Crime" by Travis F. Johnson, Special Agent with the San Diego FBI, on Friday, May 1, 2009, from 12pm to 1pm.

Mr. Johnson will provide an inside look at the current threats posed by cyber criminals, such as computer intrusion, Internet fraud and identity theft, as well as what you can do to avoid potential threats and what you should do if you become a victim. Mr. Johnson is currently assigned to the San Diego Cyber Crime Squad and has specialized in investigating computer intrusion, Internet fraud and identity theft since 2006. He was previously a member of the Nevada Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Class attendees are eligible for 1 hour of general participatory MCLE credit. All those attending will be eligible to win a special raffle prize to be held at the end of the presentation.

The North County Branch has a packed week of events. It will be hosting an Open House Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm with light refreshments and giveaways presented by the North County Bar Association.

The North County Branch also will hold a series of Law 101 classes.
All classes are from 12pm to 1pm.

Lastly, the North County Branch will be hosting Free Legal Clinics in conjunction with the North County Bar Association on Thursday, April 30, 2009, and Friday, May 1, 2009, from 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Please contact the library at (760) 940-4386 for practice areas and registration.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2009, All Branches of the Law Library will be participating in the Legal Resources Knowledge Fair. The Fair will be held at county court complexes in Vista, El Cajon, South Bay, and at the Hall of Justice. It is a distribution of information about legal services and resources available in the San Diego County.
