July Library Closures
All branches of the Law Library will be CLOSED on:
Monday, July 5th, in observance of Independence Day. Normal hours of operation will resume on Tuesday, July 6, 2010.
According to USA.gov, on July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence, announcing the colonies' separation from Great Britain. The Constitution provides the legal and governmental framework for the United States, however, the Declaration, with its eloquent assertion "all Men are created equal," is equally beloved by the American people.
Philadelphians marked the first anniversary of American independence with a spontaneous celebration, which is described in a letter by John Adams to Abigail Adams. However, observing Independence Day only became commonplace after the War of 1812.

New Resource & Materials Added to the Collection
This month's featured resource:
The Public Domain: How to Find & Use Copyright-free Writings, Music, Art & More
by Stephen Fishman, Esq.
The Public Domain helps you find and identify which creative works are protected by copyright and which aren't, and are thus free for all to use. There are billions of creative works in the public domain; some famous examples are: Hamlet by William Shakespeare; Moby Dick by Herman Melville; and the 5th Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Are you a writer looking for a story to adapt? A publisher looking for photos or illustrations for your project? A musician that wants to play music without paying permission fees? A filmmaker that wants to use part of someone else's footage? If yes, then you should read this book because it will give you specific information about finding copyright-free writings, music, art, photography, software, maps, databases, videos, and more.

Rejected!
by Isabel E.
In the book "Other People's Rejection Letters,"edited by Bill Shapiro, there is one letter that the author likes best.
In 1957, Harvey Wax was writing to all the Ivy League colleges for law school applications. One school turned him down by stating "In reply to your recent letter, I regret that we must inform you that Princeton University has no law school."
Mr. Wax, having recently attended his 50 year reunion at Harvard Law School, philosophizes "If you don't get rejected, you don't reach out even further, you don't stretch yourself."
