Help Us Celebrate Our New CCH Tax Database
The SDCPLL and CCH are pleased to announce the launch of expanded CCH
services through the library's public access computers. Now, in
addition to the existing Health and Human Services Online, the
Standard Federal Tax Reporter Online is available at all of our
Branches.
The organization of the Standard Federal Tax Reporter database is
similar to the print loose-leaf service, providing detailed coverage
of federal income tax law. The editorial explanations and annotations
focus exclusively on income tax and income tax related provisions.
There is also access to the full text of the Internal Revenue Code,
Regulations, and CCH's comprehensive Code amendment notes. An
additional feature: researchers can link directly to tax cases cited
in the Standard Federal Tax Reporter.
Please join us to celebrate the launch of this new database, on
Wednesday, April 18th from 12pm to 1pm at the Main Library.
Refreshments will be served and a CCH representative will provide a
demonstration and be available to answer all your questions. This
event is free, but pre-registration is required, as seating is
limited. Please call 619-531-3900 to reserve your seat.

Local Court Case of Interest
Mory & Chula Vista Police Offcer's Assoc. v. Chula Vista Police
Dept., et al.
Is a police officer's First Amendment Right to Assembly violated
when she is prohibited from participating in a beauty contest? That
is the heart of a lawsuit between Deanna Mory, reigning Ms.
California and a Chula Vista Police Officer, and the Chula Vista
Police Department. She alleges the Department considers it outside
employment and subject to their prior approval. They told her that
prize money and gifts from the pageants violate the city's
"Incompatible Activities Code." Mory offered to refuse any money or
gifts, and only keep any symbols, such as a crown or a sash. She
said the department would not accept her compromise. In her
complaint, Mory said that police administrators warned her that if
she continues to compete in beauty pageants, she could be reprimanded
or fired. She filed suit in the U.S. District Court, Southern
District of California for injunctive and monetary relief, and hopes
to compete in this year's national pageant.
