About the speaker. Judge Kelety clerked for the US Court of Appeals for
the 9th Circuit after graduating from Cornell Law School in 1985. She then practiced
law for Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in New York. In 1990 she moved to San Diego
where she worked as a federal prosecutor in the US Attorneys Office. After
seven years as a prosecutor, Ms. Kelety turned her talents to practicing estate
planning law and became involved more heavily with the Lawyers Club. She was appointed
to the bench in 2003 and her first assignment was in juvenile dependency court,
hearing cases about abused or neglected children. In 2007, Judge Kelety was assigned
a general criminal trial calendar. Currently, utilizing her estate planning background,
Judge Kelety is assigned to probate court. |

About the
speaker. Jay Sacks is a supervising Staff Attorney with the San Diego
Superior Court, and currently supervises the four Small Claims Legal Advisories
in San Diego County. He received his Juris Doctorate from USD in 1979, and was
in private practice in San Diego from 1979-1990. From 1990-1996 he founded the
San Diego Small Claims Clinic. He has worked with the San Diego County Superior
Court as a staff attorney since 1996. |

Description. Through
a joint effort of the San Diego County Court and the San Diego County Public Law
Library, we are hosting a Legal Resources Knowledge Fair for the public during
Law Week. The Fairs will feature information from the Courts, the Law Library
and non-profit legal groups about programs and resources available throughout
the county to assist people with a variety of legal issues.
The Fair will be
held on Wednesday, April 30th from 10am to 3pm, at all four court divisions:
Central (Hall
of Justice), 330 W. Broadway, San Diego
North County Court, 325 S. Melrose Drive, Vista
South County Court, 500 Third Ave, Chula Vista
East County Court, 250 E. Main St, El Cajon

Description. What
is the rule of law as applied to the role of the City Attorney? This talk will
recap the recent controversy and analyze relevant authority, including the City
Charter, and American Bar Association and California Rules of Professional Conduct,
and state case law. The speaker will pose certain rules of law that are absolute
and inviolable concerning the job of our next city attorney.
About the
speaker. Amy Lepine, a private attorney who owns and manages Lepine Law
group, a boutique law firm specializing in consumer and family law matters, is
running for the office of San Diego City Attorney. Prior to founding her own law
firm, Lepine handled civil litigation, including consumer class actions, for a
San Diego litigation firm and then served on the City Attorneys Pension
Task Force, where she gained experience in not only San Diegos pension matters,
but the inner workings of the City Attorneys office. Before attending law
school, Lepine served as the director of legal services at the Center for Community
Solutions, running a non-profit domestic violence clinic. She has drafted legislation
and testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Lepine received her B.A.
in journalism from San Diego State University and graduated cum laude from California
Western School of Law. Ms. Lepine currently serves on the board of directors with
Lawyers Club of San Diego, and co-chairs Lawyers Clubs Leadership Development
Committee, a committee dedicated to grooming and promoting young women for leadership

Civil law matters.
The consultation
is to provide members of the public with general legal advice and referrals only.
Volunteer lawyers will not provide on-going representation. Consultations are

Description. This lecture is a brief overview of the legal system.
About the
speaker. Ms. Cataldo is Senior Counsel at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves,
and Savitch. Her practice emphasizes complex business litigation, trust, estate,
and probate litigation.
Ms. Cataldo received
her undergraduate degree, with honors, from the University of Arizona in 1975
and her law degree from Western State University College of Law in 1994. She was
admitted to practice law in California in 1994. Ms. Cataldo is an adjunct professor
in the areas of civil litigation, torts, and business law at Palomar College.
She is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, and a member of the Board
of Directors of the Bar Association of Northern San Diego County and Lawyers Club
of San Diego, North County Chapter. Prior to joining Procopio, Ms. Cataldo was
with the firm of Lodge & Heller in Carlsbad, California. |

About the
speaker. Deborah F. Bayus graduated from Marshall University with a B.A.
in Secondary Education, double major in English and Speech, with a minor in Sociology.
She received her law degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and currently
practices in the area of real estate and contract law. She offers a wealth of
expertise in litigation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) gained from her
professional experience as a private practice attorney and personal business background.
She strives to consistently maintain close and respectful communication with clients
and to meet the highest ethical standards in and out of court.
As a resident of
North San Diego County for more than 20 years, Ms Bayus continues to be actively
involved in numerous community outreach programs. She has volunteered her legal
assistance and guidance to the Domestic Violence Clinic, patrons of skilled nursing
facilities, and the mentally challenged. Deborah is a frequent lecturer and instructor
for Adult Education Classes, as well as a lecturer for MCLE credit to her colleagues.
Always an advocate of higher education, Ms. Bayus has been an Adjunct Professor
at the University of San Diego’s Paralegal Program and currently teaches
the legal studies program at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA. Additionally,
she is an active California Notary .
Ms. Bayus's legal
affiliations include numerous memberships, with her greatest accomplishments being
made through the North County Bar Association, where she currently serves as Vice
President (President-Elect for 2008), the Oliver Wendell Holmes Chapter of Inns
of Court, which promotes civility in litigation, and as a panel attorney for the
Lawyers Referral Service of NCBA. |

training and successful litigation experience make her a strong negotiator and

Templin attended San Diego State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science
in Business Management. He received his law degree from San Diego’s Western
State University College of Law. Prior to passing the California Bar Examination,
Mr. Templin was an insurance underwriting manager and insurance claims supervisor
for 13 years. Mr. Templin has practiced law in the Escondido area, focusing on
real estate law, landlord-tenant law, business law, and personal injury law for
the past 21 years.
Mr. Templin is an active
member of the Bar Association of North San Diego County and currently serves as
Secretary/Vice President. He is also Co-Chair of the North County Lawyer Magazine
Committee. |
